This movie will describe how to use “inMeXes”, a system that rapidly searches for English expressions in PubMed/MEDLINE.
We will jump to “inMeXes” from the LSDB home page.

This is the front page of “inMeXes”.
A brief explanation of “inMeXes” is available here.
A search will begin when 4 or more letters are entered into the search box.
A search result will be returned displaying candidate English expressions.
These numbers indicate how many times a candidate expression has appeared in PubMed/MEDLINE.
The maximum number of search results to be displayed can be changed from this drop-down list.
Now 30 results per search are shown here.
Each expression is linked to various resources that help to understand its usage.
Let’s select the “LSD (Life Science Dictionary) concordance” from the drop-down list, and check the phrases that co-occur with one of the candidate expressions.
Clicking one of the expressions,
will display the LSD concordance list for the candidate expression.
The LSD concordance list shows how the selected expression is used among published Life Science papers. The usage is listed in the order of frequency.
The phrases surrounded by the red box show the kind of expressions that follow “be associated with”.

Clicking the “sort by 1st right” button,
will sort the first word following “be associated with” by alphabetical order.
Let’s go back to the search result.
And set the drop-down list to “MEDLINE sentence”.
In this setting, clicking one of the expressions will display a sentence from PubMed that contains the selected expression.
The second column indicates in which section the expression was found. For example, “AB” indicates that this sentence was found in the abstract.
“TI” indicates that this one was found in the title.
The numbers in the first columns are PubMed IDs.
Clicking the numbers will display the PubMed entries.
Now, return to the front page and enter a different English expression, such as “ES c” in the search box.
Set the drop-down list to “LSD dictionary”.
The LSD dictionary is an online Japanese-English dictionary for Life Science terms, created and maintained by Kyoto University. As shown here, several translation candidates for “ES cells” are displayed.
Try changing the setting to “Wikipedia”.
Clicking the link will display a page on “Embryonic stem cell” in Wikipedia.
