Database catalog in LSDB is one of the services provided by the Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS). It is a database of databases.

There are so many databases in the world, while there are so many users who complain about “databases”. They say “I cannot find appropriate databases for my project!”, “ I cannot really see what kinds of databases are available!” and so on. It is not too much to say that how to make use of databases is a key issue for your research projects.

Database catalog organizes the database records by database type, data type, subjects of the study and database provider. And users can post comments on any database.

Database catalog is one of the services provided by the Database Center for Life Science (DBCLS).

It is a database of databases.

Database catalog organizes the database records by database type, data type, subjects of the study and database provider.

There are several ways to access the database records.

The numbers inside the brackets display the number of records.

The default setting displays the records as thumbnails to show the front page of the databases.

There are some databases that are inactive. The status of the databases is monitored daily.

The display format can be changed.

Choose “List”.

The database records are now displayed in a list.

The list can be sorted by

Category,

Name (alphabetical order),

Number of stars (descending order),

Number of access (descending order), and

Newest comments.

Comments on databases can be read and shared among users.

Like this.

Users can post comments on any database.

Click “Add comment”.

To post a comment, “Name”, “Password” and “Comment” must be filled in.

To edit a comment, enter password.

The organization of the database records can be displayed in a list.

Like this.

The records can be sorted by the columns and users can choose which columns to display.

The default setting of the “Tree” option organizes and displays the database records by “Category”.

Under “Category”, the databases are categorized in three groups: “DB type”, “Target”, and “Organism species”.

The “Tree” can also be displayed by “Catalog” or “Organization”.

Choose “Catalog”.

“Catalog” displays the database records by research projects.

Choose “Organization”.

It displays the database records by the organizations that provide the database service.

Let’s take a look at the databases provided by national universities in Japan.

There are 55 databases provided by the University of Tokyo.

The entire database record can be downloaded to your computer.
